Calilla is a ground-floor studio for two in Playa Chiquita. Its terrace, with a table looking onto the garden, is where almost everyone who stays here ends up having breakfast: the morning sun comes in, and after that the apartment stays cool for the rest of the day.
It sits directly beneath a tree the parrots climb to feed in. You can see and hear them from the terrace — a show few places can offer from the breakfast table.

We're in Playa Chiquita, Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, on Costa Rica's southern Caribbean coast. The bus between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo runs along the main road, and Cocles, Punta Uva, and Manzanillo are a few minutes by car. Just steps away there are restaurants, a mini-market, bike rentals, and a shop renting motorbikes and ATVs and organizing tours. And the beach is a five-minute walk along a natural trail where monkeys and sloths are a common sight.
